Baikida Carroll
( trumpet, composer, producer ) is a highly pivotal figure
in the music world. He has written scores that have distinguished
theater, dance, TV, film and concerts for three decades,
including the 1990 highly acclaimed musical, Betsey
Brown and the 1995 award winning Broadway show, Having
Our Say.
His
recordings and concerts include works with Jack
DeJohnette, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, David Murray, Julius
Hemphill, Oliver Lake, Dave Holland, Anthony Braxton, Muhal
Richard Abrams, Steve Lacy, John Hicks, Lester Bowie, John
Carter, Jay McShann, Little Milton, Albert King, Dr. John,
Patti LaBelle, Carla Bley, Reggie Workman
and Sam Rivers.
Carroll
continues to compose for, tour, produce
and record with his own variant ensembles.He was the recipient
of the 1999 ASCAP/
IAJE
Duke Ellington Jazz Composers Award,
presented January 15, 2000.
